Texting Glossary

One of the ways you can help prevent cyberbullying is to be sure that your messages are not misinterpreted. Remember when you're texting, either with your cell phone or online, the recipient of the message does not get the information that comes from facial expressions, gestures, or tone of voice. Think of the example in class, the phrase "I'll kill you." This phrase is sometimes used casually to indicate mild displeasure with someone, such as, "If you don't give me back my folder, I'll kill you." In that example, the harsh literal meaning of the words is softened by a persons expression and tone of voice.

Think about what texting abbreviations might clarify your message and make sure the recipient of your message doesn't feel bullied or have their feelings hurt. In the example above, you could add to your text message, JK for "Just Kidding."

Your assignment is to contribute at least two abbreviations that might clarify a text message and prevent your recipients from feeling bullied.
